Deborah Lupton is a sociologist in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Sydney. She has published extensively on such topics as the sociology of medicine and public health; the body; risk; parenting culture; pregnant, unborn and infant embodiment; HIV/AIDS; the emotions; food and eating; and obesity politics and fat embodiment. She is the author/co-author of 13 other books and the editor of one. Her latest books are Medicine as Culture (2nd edition, Sage, 2012), Fat (Routledge, 2012), Risk (2nd edition, Routledge, 2013) as well as The Social Worlds of the Unborn (Palgrave Macmillan, in press), in which she expands upon many of the arguments presented in the Introduction of this Living Book.
